Abstract. This review dedicated to the 40th anniversary of Volgograd State University contains brief information about the main achievements of a number of scientific schools and directions in various fields of physics working at University. Over many years of fruitful work at Volgagrad State University, specialists in various fields of physics have rightfully established themselves as one of the best research scientists in various fields of activity, which has allowed Volgograd State University to take a leading position in the training of highly qualified specialists among the leading universities in Russia.
