Abstract. Measurements of aerosol optical thickness (AOT) and water vapor content in Volgograd. Evaluated average daily and monthly mean aerosol optical properties. Comparisons with satellite observations were conducted. It is shown that calibration of the photometer in Western Siberia couldlead to systematic errors in the recovery of the absorbing mass of H2O in the Lower Volga.
