Abstract. The analysis of the continuum models used in radiative transfer problems in the atmospheric window 8–12 microns was performed. The results of numerical simulation of downwelling heat radiation for Western Siberia conditions are presented. Scheme for a possible experiment to refine models ofcontinuum absorption is proposed.

Key words: molecular spectroscopy, molecular absorption, radiative transfer, the continuum absorption, water vapor.
